| Old mountain bike or cruiser | Ground can be packed, soft or muddy dirt. Your bike will not be the same after a few days in the desert. Don't use your nice new mountain bike. | |
| Bike lock | People walk off with the wrong bike sometime. You don't need anything fancy. I use a simple luggage lock and wire. | |
| Light for your bike | Makes it easier to find at night and to see in front of you. | |
